Satakunta is Finland’s most diverse food-producing region. In addition to large-scale food processors and extensive contract production chains, the region holds significant potential for creating new added value through small-scale food processing and enabling shorter supply chains that connect processors directly with customers. A key activity of this knowledge-sharing project is to embed artisan food expertise into Satakunta’s food supply chain and self-sufficiency, while also supporting a decentralized network for security of supply.
The project’s primary goal is to demonstrate how even modest investments can launch or diversify food-related entrepreneurship and generate added value—for instance, by leveraging artisan food certification. The project supports the creation of new food-sector enterprises and the diversification of existing ones. It also aims to strengthen local food culture, raise consumer awareness of local artisan expertise, and build a regional network of artisan food entrepreneurs. In the future, this regional network could collaborate with networks in other regions. The project fosters an increase in small-scale processing within Satakunta (including primary processing on farms and micro-enterprises). It promotes—in a novel way—the emergence and appreciation of motivation, enthusiasm, the courage to innovate, and local food craftsmanship.
