The entire bioeconomy is challenged by major changes in technological development, input production costs and consumption changes. In addition, the basis of the bioeconomy: natural resources and the environment are challenged in the short and long term by the need to adapt to climate change. In most industries, the challenge in the future will be a transition in which the possibilities of artificial intelligence (AI) play a central role and the importance of strengthening skills will increase. BioAI project is among the first to respond to the challenge of introducing new technology and promotes the agility of Satakunta’s business life by anticipating actions or new innovations that are required to strengthen business operations and guarantee growth to meet the needs of the Satakunta population in the forthcoming decades.
In BioAI project, forecasting tools utilizing new AI technology are being developed, with the help of which Satakunta’s business life, to enhance the functions of 1. the food chain and 2. business activities related to the water environment in time to respond to the anticipated challenging changes of the future. In this case, in these areas of business life, it will be possible to target appropriate actions in time or develop new ones to increase competitiveness and competence.
BioAI is co-funded by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) via Regional Council of Satakunta. The project is co-carried by Pyhäjärvi Institute (PJI) and University of Tampere (TAU), University Consortium of Pori, GPT-Lab.
Target groups of the project are SMEs, secondary education providers, universities, research institutes, development companies and joint municipal authorities that operate in the fields of the bioeconomy, food economy, blue economy and experience economy in Satakunta.
BioAI project work is carried out in three work packages (1-3):
