The project implements practical measures for water management and nutrient retention in the catchment areas of the Eurajoki, Köyliönjärvi, Pyhäjärvi, Pyhäjoki, and Ylänejoki watercourses.
Project measures:
- Implementation of practical water management and nutrient retention measures (e.g., wetland restoration, piloting of adjustable weir solutions). The project also involves planning catchment-level solutions and surveying restoration needs.
- Monitoring the effectiveness of previously implemented stream restoration projects using electric fishing, and conducting water quality monitoring associated with the implemented measures to assess their impact.
- Supporting biodiversity measures that are crucial for achieving good ecological status—such as strengthening local trout populations—through targeted biodiversity actions.
The project has three main objectives:
- To reduce nutrient and suspended solid loads entering Lake Pyhäjärvi and Lake Köyliönjärvi.
- To maintain the effectiveness of water protection measures and increase understanding of methods to improve the performance of previously implemented measures.
- To generate local biodiversity benefits in areas dominated by agriculture and forestry through water protection measures.
