Proactive management of late blight on farms

The main goal of the project is to provide potato farmers with predictive ability, timing information and tools for integrated control of late blight. Increasing the efficiency of the use of plant protection products improves the profitability of farms. In addition, the aim is to increase farmers’ deeper knowledge of late blight and variety knowledge, as well as the accuracy of control based on late blight forecasts.

We are investigating the characteristics of late blight occurring in Finland and, among other things, the level of effectiveness of pesticides. During the growing season, we collect late blight samples from Economic Development Centre of South Ostrobothnia, Ostrobothnia, Northern Finland and Southwest Finland.

Our goal is to collect as many samples as possible from several different locations. If you detect late blight in your field, you can notify us and we will come and take a sample. We need the implemented plant protection program and schedule as background information. Personal and farm information will not be combined with the samples.
