The project aims to offset revenue losses in the local economy caused by the decline in peat production by developing RDI (Research, Development, and Innovation) activities within Satakunta’s bioeconomy and food supply chain. This will create new, innovative business and employment opportunities in the region. The project is coordinated by Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK), with Pyhäjärvi Institute, Prizztech, and Satafood serving as partner organizations.
The BIOVAHVA project focuses on enhancing bioeconomy-related research and innovation capabilities and accelerating the adoption of advanced technologies. The goal is to pilot and implement new technologies, innovations, and production methods. Specific objectives include reducing energy waste, increasing the use of renewable energy, lowering bioeconomy energy costs, optimizing biochar utilization, expanding the use of efficient biochar solutions, increasing greenhouse production, improving fertilizer efficiency, and promoting circular economy solutions. Additionally, the project involves developing an operational cooperation forum for Satakunta’s bioeconomy RDI activities; in this forum, RDI specialists from research organizations and industry will define strategic guidelines for the development of the region’s food production, bioeconomy, and food supply chain.
The project supports the effective implementation of goals outlined in Satakunta’s Just Transition Fund (JTF) plan.
