Business and management expertise in broiler farms

The aim of the training project is to increase the financial and management skills of broiler farms in Satakunta and Western Finland, so that the farms have sufficient expertise in the areas of profitable production and farm management before planning and implementing development and investment activities in the coming years.

The project is divided into two sets of measures in accordance with its objectives, which are

  • Improving the understanding of poultry farm key figures
  • Improving farm management and management methods

During the set of measures related to key figures, we will go through how the farm’s profitability should be measured and economic key figures interpreted. We will also focus on how the farm’s own production results affect financial success and how these results could be improved.

In turn, the management set of measures will delve into the management of both people and the entire business. During the project, the topic will be discussed from the perspectives of self-management and well-being, employer operations, and risk management and preparedness, among other things.

The project will be implemented using training days, small group activities, webinars and case-type calculations. The implementation aims to take into account the wishes and needs of the participants in relation to the subject areas.

The measures presented above aim to ensure that the target group’s broiler farms will have better opportunities to identify development targets related to farm finances and management in the future, and thus also to improve the competitiveness and profitability of the industry. Increasing profitability will enable the launch of investments in the coming years and the securing of poultry meat self-sufficiency in a challenging market situation.

The main implementer of the project is the Pyhäjärvi Institute and the partner is HKFoods Finland Oy.
