DeliSoil project contributes to the realisation of the European Union’s Mission “A Soil Deal for Europe” by improving the growth conditions and health of the soils and thus the sustainability of food systems. The specific objective of the project is to innovate, research, develop and demonstrate the usability of side streams from the food industry as safe, sustainable and socially acceptable soil improvers and recycled fertilizers.
The DeliSoil project (2023-2027) is funded by the European Commission, Horizon Europe Programme (HORIZON-MISS-2022-SOIL-01). The project is coordinated by the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke). All in all, 14 research, development and training/business organisations from 10 European countries are involved in the project. Pyhäjärvi Institute (PJI) is responsible for the construction and activities of the Finnish Living lab, research and business collaboration network, in Satakunta region.
In the Finnish Living lab area, in Satakunta, the challenges of the food industry’s side-stream processes are explored and the aim is to develop the processes together with Luke’s Biopaja so that side-streams as soil improvers or recycled fertilizers could be utilized. The soil products developed in the project are offered, for example, to be tested on farms in Satakunta.
PJI also coordinates the construction of the Living lab network of the DeliSoil project in four other partner countries Denmark, Germany, Italy and Spain. In addition to partners, there are actors from the entire food production value chain, from farmers to companies processing side streams.
