Good soil health — comprising of factors such as soil moisture, nutrients and micro-organisms — is essential for ensuring productivity and resiliency in food production. The main focus of the two joint projects, BioEväät and PeltoAI, is on finding ways to improve physical properties of soil and water management on fields in order to have a positive effect on soil water retention and nutrient and carbon cycling.
In BioEväät, field pilots are carried out in co-operation with local farms and changes monitored using mainly traditional sampling methods. PeltoAI extends on that work and explores modern techniques such as remote sensing, digital measurement techniques, use of drones and different soil testing equipment. New methods and information will be communicated to local farmers in various events.
