Finnish livestock production is central to the nation’s security of supply and self-sufficiency. The changing operating environment of agriculture, along with its environmental impacts—both positive and negative—has become a significant topic in societal discussions. Meanwhile, climate change and extreme weather conditions are increasing the challenges facing primary production. A training project led by Pyhäjärvi Institute addresses sustainability issues on livestock farms.
The project covers timely themes: mitigating climate and water emissions, promoting biodiversity, soil health, water management, animal welfare, and developing the feed supply chain—all while considering farm economics and profitability. The project offers three types of training sessions that combine to form a comprehensive educational program. These sessions take place in the regions of Southwest Finland, Satakunta, North Savo, and North Karelia.
The project targets pig, broiler, and beef cattle producers, as well as other farmers, in the participating regions. The training sessions are open to all primary producers.
Pyhäjärvi Institute serves as the project’s lead implementer, with HKFoods acting as a partner.
